Micaela turned two in June and I knew she would start pre-school a few days a week to relieve the Grandma's from watching her all week. We were so blessed with all of the help we had from them since she was 6 months old but now she is ready for the social interaction. I toured many schools last summer but it was hard to imagine what she would be like at 2. Montessori on Peck Ave is too big and I was afraid she would get lost in the shuffle, Ocean View Academy has an awful location and the rooms felt depressing, Growing Garden was beautiful seemed great in lots of ways however the director kind of discouraged me based on not being Jewish. A few schools were out St James, American Martyrs, and Sand Tots are co-op or part time. The school we selected was OK Corral.
Ok Corral is in Hermosa and I toured it twice. Dennis reassured me it felt like home...at least more than the others. I love that there are only 3 classes (2 year old, 3year old, and 4 year old class). They play together in the yard but have a small class size. Micaela's class is about 6-7 in the morning and in the afternoon about 4 kids. The thing I loved the most is they rotate rooms every 30 minutes...they have a library room/science craft room and the main room. They also have two play areas and they eat outside. The teachers have been there for years and the school is state accredited!
We told Micaela stories about school to get her excited. The week before she started we did an orientation with her while we sat in class. She was ready! Problem is I wasnt..I was so nervous and I wouldn't even be there to drop her off since it was my second day of school. I had so many fears...will she nap, will she eat, will she miss us, will she have accidents?? I made her a little sign and hoped to get some cute pics from Dennis.
Dennis took her and he said she was so excited! She told the neighbors "I'm going to school" as she waved from the car. Dennis said she did great. He made sure he left her with a teacher and then said goodbye. I loved getting her cute pics!!
That afternoon when I picked her up she was happy to see me but looked tired. I asked the 3 questions I plan to ask...1.Did she nap? 2. Did she poop or have an accident? 3. Anything else I need to know? Her teacher told me she did great! She actually napped too. Micaela was really tired on the drive home but told me she had fun. She will be there M/Th/F and Grandma Debi will watch her the other days!
