This weekend was a birthday filled one! Friday after a long day of work Dennis and I drove down to meet the crew at Javier's in Newport to celebrate Stefan and Jose's birthdays. We fill a huge table with usual suspects (minus Amanda) and even a few fresh faces. We had a great time chatting although the table was so big it was hard to talk to everyone. It was great to see Erica as she is so cute preggo and is due any day now! After we headed to Landmark for a few drinks. Dennis and I came home exhausted!
Saturday we slept in until almost noon..oh my! In the evening we headed over to Jen's house for Jame's 30th bday get-to-gether. I only stayed for an hour and then headed to the OC by myself to celebrate Nancy's 30th at 300. It was so great to see the girls and I just can't believe I have been friends with Nancy for over 15 years.
Hanging out with the high school girls made me reflect in the the meaning of friendship! The word "friend" is hard to define, and it is ever so changing during the course of our life. Whe we are little a friend is someone you play tag with or sit next to at recess. In high school a friend is someone who you cheered with, or played a sport with. They came over every once and a while, you chatted about your crush and giggled about just about anything. During college your friends are the ones sharing all the new experiences with you school, love, your dreams, and ambitions, and even some partying. The friends that you really connect with remain and those that were out of pure convience are long gone. As we get into adulthood you form friendships with people you are around often, co-workers, classmates, or neighbors, again only the ones you truly connect with remain. I almost forgot to mention the built in friend network of your family! (Can't pick them..hehehe)
Friends should be there for you when you need them, to talk, to cry, to laugh. With all of our busy lives it is often hard to be that good friend, but we can always strive to be the best we can.
I am grateful I have long time friends, new time friends, and the good old family friends.
I am especially grateful to have a best friend in my mother, and especially blessed to have a best friend in my amazing husband.
